Why A Patient Might Need A Cosmetic Gum Lift?
Do you have a smile that reveals much more of your gums than it does your “pearly whites”? Would you like to have a smile that displayed those beautiful teeth instead of too much pink? Do you feel that your gum line is not the most attractive part of your smile?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, a cosmetic gum lift procedure that repairs your uneven gum line, or adjusts your gummy smile, might be what “the doctor ordered.”
A gummy smile is generally the result of gum tissue that grows too high over the bottom part of a tooth or teeth, which should be uncovered and revealed when smiling.
This procedure, also called aesthetic crown lengthening, can be performed with only one visit to our office. We have listed several facts about this cosmetic procedure below:
- It is straightforward to understand.
- To correct the appropriate contouring and positioning of your gums, we will sedate you appropriately, then skillfully and gently lift and remove a portion of your gums.
- This exposes more of your teeth and creates an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
- Your teeth then become more proportional and appear to be longer.
- Since the natural contours of your teeth are better exposed, your smile is much more pleasing.
We will sometimes need to slightly alter the underlying bone where the affected gum tissue is attached during this gum lift procedure. The determining factor here will be whether or not our patient’s gum or gingival margin meets the necessary location from the edge of the bone of at least three millimeters.
If we make no changes to the underlying bone structure, there is a high possibility the patient’s gums will regrow over the teeth once again, and then the purpose of the gum lift procedure will have been nullified.
This simple dental cosmetic procedure can add the perfect finishing touches to an otherwise gorgeous smile. It can be the ideal solution for an uneven gum line that detracts from the aesthetic brilliance of a good set of porcelain veneers.
Our patients are generally very pleased with the short period required to finish this practical cosmetic procedure and that there is little or no discomfort during the quick healing time of the gum tissue.
If you are interested in an aesthetic crown lengthening or gum lift procedure, as it is more commonly called, please call us to set a consultation appointment. At that time, we will evaluate your dental situation to determine whether or not you would be a good candidate.
